Dead Space For Mac

Hello! Is there a way to create a space of several seconds in between the automatic playing of songs in the iTunes library? My library is very eclectic and it is TOO strange to go immediately from a classical piece, say, to some R&R. My brain needs a little interval but I haven't been able to figure out how to create any with iTunes.
(If I listened from playlists the music could all be the same genre, at least, but it would still be nice to have a little silent interval between pieces.) Thanks for any advice. M.M.
